Kiosk at Navarre Welcome Center
When the Navarre Park was revamped (to add the splash park), the original bulletin board, that held our brochure holder, was removed. To date, no one knows what has happened to this bulletin board. In the meantime, we have put our brochures inside of the Welcome Center. This is not ideal because the FTA hikers come through the area at all hours of the day and night and the Welcome Center has limited hours that they are open.
On November 8, 2022, I met with Santa Rosa County Parks & Recreation Superintendent Rod Hardy at Navarre Park to discuss options for getting our brochure holder placed somewhere outside of the Welcome Center. I showed him an example of the kiosk that we have at the UWF Dunes Trail as an example of what we could build there. However, it doesn’t really fit aesthetically with their newly revamped park.
He suggested that we put the brochure holder on the side of the existing Navarre Park sign (near the Welcome Center entrance). This is an option that he wants to “run up the chain of command” before we can re-install a new brochure holder. Again, this will be a brochure holder with a lid that we’ll receive from FTA in Gainesville.
NOTE: The bulk of the seashore trail is a road/sidewalk or beach walk. With the exception of the UWF Dunes Trail, most of the blazes are on metal poles and will, therefore, last considerably longer than our typical FTA blazes. These blaze poles are checked on annually to see if they need re-blazing. The UWF Dunes Trail is checked on quarterly.
